Hoppy-scotch

Giving the traditional playground game of hopscotch an Easter twist. A good activity for burning off energy and practising numbers.

Hoppy-scotch.

What you need:

- white and pink card

- black marker pen

- glue

- cellotape

- bunny ears (optional)

How to make the game:

1. Cut out ten bunny footprints using the white card (I made one and used it as a template).

2. Stick on the pink pieces of card using a glue stick. 

3. Write numbers 1-10 on the bunny footprints.

4. Stick them to the floor in a traditional hopscotch formation using cellotape.

How to play:

To begin with my son just enjoyed jumping from footprint to footprint in the correct number order. He explored different ways of jumping and tried to master the concept of hopping. Then I showed him how to jump one-foot to two-feet to one-foot and so on. He found this quite difficult to co-ordinate but eventually got the hang of it.

We didn't make it past this stage but if you have older children you could play by the rules of hopscotch by throwing a small object (a plastic egg would be ideal) and the jumper has to bend down and pick it up without falling over as they complete their hopscotch turn.
