What you need:
Each activity will require a few additional materials, but here is the bulk list:

- large good quality white paper- we used the Melissa & Doug large finger paint paper pad
- acrylic paints- we used IKEA MALA fluorescent paints, and green, blue and red acrylic paint from Apple Barrel
- Tip: contain the mess with a Bumkins Splat Mat and cute festive elf smock

Additional materials needed: salad spinner, white card, and tape.

Kids always love spin art! Simply cut out some stars from the white card and fix tape to the bottom of each one. Attach one star at a time to the bottom of the salad spinner and let your child put drops of paint onto the star. Put the lid on the salad spinner and spin spin spin! As the lid is removed your toddler will let out the cutest ooooos and aaaaas! You can then tape or glue the stars to the large piece of paper.

Additional materials needed: black marker, cotton balls, wooden pegs, and paint pallet.

Start by using the black pen to draw some Christmas light wires across the paper. Attach a cotton ball to each wooden peg and dip it in the paints ready for your toddler to use. Encourage your child to use the pegs as paint stampers to add brightly colored lights to the wire.

Additional materials needed: bubble wrap.

Have you tried bubble wrap printing with your kids before? It leaves such an awesome snow-like pattern! Let your toddler squirt paint over the raised side of the bubble wrap- encourage them to use lots of bright colors! Then turn the bubble wrap over and push it gently onto the paper. Peel it off to see the rainbow snow!

Additional materials needed: a festive selection of cookie cutters, and a plate to put the paint on.

Cookie cutters work so well for printing Christmas shapes. Ask your toddler to dip the cutter into the paint and then press it gently onto their paper. Encourage them to use different colors and to fill their page.

Additional materials needed: rolling pin, and painter’s tape.

Tape resist painting is such a fun method of process art! With your toddler work together to use the tape to make snowflake shapes on the paper. Then add squirts of paint all over the page. Give your toddler the rolling pin and let them enjoy the sensory fun of rolling the paint all over the page. Once the paint is dry, remove the tape to reveal beautiful white snowflakes in a winter’s storm.

I hope you feel inspired to get creative with your toddler. They’ll feel so proud handing over a gift wrapped in their very own art creation! Happy holidays!
