Daffodil Cutlery Painting

Still life flower painting with a twist...... no paintbrushes just cutlery.  

Lovely Spring daffodils painted using cutlery.

What you need:

- fresh daffodils (or a picture would do)

- white card or paper

- acrylic green, orange and yellow paint

- IKEA children's knife, spoon and fork (I colour matched to the paint but not necessary)

The set up.

Step 1: Painting the stem

We looked at the flowers and talked about the shape and colour of the stems. My son squirted a thin line of green paint on the card and then used the knife to flatten the line so it looked like a nice thick stem.

Step 2: Painting the central cup

Again, we looked in detail at the middle of the daffodil and spoke about the colour and shape. This time my son squirted a blob of orange paint and then squashed it using the back of the spoon.

Step 3: Painting the petals

Finally we spent time talking about the shape and colour of the petals. We also counted how many petals each flower had. My son chose how many petals to have on his daffodils and squirted that many blobs around each central cup. He then gently stroked the paint outwards from the central cup using a fork.
