Adding a glowing twist to the already fun activity of using a toilet roll and balloon to make your own confetti launcher.
Glow in the dark confetti launcher. |
What you need:
- toilet roll
- bottom half of a balloon
- white card
- tape
- glue
- scissors
- glow in the dark paint
How it works:
The first stage was to paint the white card with glow in the dark paint. We ended up doing about six layers in order to get a really bright glow (my son got bored after layer two!). Then we cut up the card into small 'confetti' pieces.
Next we started to think about making the launcher. I cut a piece of white card to the same size as the toilet roll and together we painted a pattern on it with the glow in the dark paint. Again this took a few layers.
We cut a balloon in half and taped the bottom half of the balloon to the bottom of the toilet roll. I tied a knot in the very bottom of the balloon.
Next my son helped to glue the patterned piece of card onto the toilet roll. I added a bit of tape to reinforce it as well. Then it was a case of waiting for everything to be dry and for night to fall.
A key part to this activity is making sure that you place the items under bright lights for a few minutes just before you use them as it results in an extra glow factor. My son loved pulling the bottom of the balloon and firing the glowing confetti into the air.
A bit fiddly for my nearly four year old to make but the end product was lots of fun.
