A delicious sensory activity that enabled my son to take on the role of hot chocolate shop worker.
Hot Chocolate Shop |
What you need:
- coco loops and coco pops cereals
- chocolate cloud dough (just mix together 5 cups all purpose flour, 3/4 cup cocoa powder and 1 cup vegetable oil)
- selection of cups, spoons and straws
- saucepan and ladle
- sprinkles and marshmallows (you could use whip cream too)
- coins
The set up. |
How it works:
I simply presented my son with the sensory bin and a tray full of accessories and left him to explore the set up. At first my son liked filling the cups with different types of chocolate before pretending to cook it in his saucepan.

Then he noticed the selection of toppings and started adding sprinkles and marshmallows.

After some independent exploration he started taking drinks orders from Mummy and Daddy. We encouraged him to ask specific questions about the order and to think about the cost of the drinks.

We finished off by making hot chocolate cloud dough castles as well as making real chocolate milk and adding some of the toppings from his sensory bin.

This was a really fun sensory activity and I loved that my son was so hands on with all of the ingredients. He also enjoyed the fact that he could taste it all too. This bin kept us busy for a good week!
Happy shop worker! |
