Every kid loves using grabbers... but imagine using an extra long one to paint with!

Painting from a distance! |
What you need:
- large grabber ($1 from Dollar Tree)
- sponge
- paint (we used a selection of acrylic colors)
- large piece of paper taped to an outside wall
|
The set up. |
How it works:
If your child is anything like my 4 year old, they will love love love this off-beat mark-making activity. As soon as I saw this huge grabber in the dollar store I knew I had to come up with a good use for it. Here it is... grabber sponge painting!
|
Dipping the sponge in the paint. |
Once you have enjoyed messing around with the grabber for a good half hour, show your child how to grasp the sponge with it. This is fantastic for strengthening those fine motor skills! Dip the sponge in the paint, we opted for a bright mixture of colors.
Then go ahead and get painting!
|
Carefully making marks with the paint. |
My little man started off very precise with his marks, but soon enjoyed giving his gross motor skills a workout too. He experimented with different styles of stroke and examined the different marks they left on the paper.
|
Testing out making different marks. |
Sometimes all it takes to freshen up learning is adding a new tool or material. This is so true in this case. The fun factor ruled here, with my son totally captivated by the novelty of using a grabber and sponge to paint from a distance.
|
A beautiful mess! |
As always with process art, the end piece was not of concern, but watching my son confidently experiment and laugh his way through this activity was awesome! We hope you give it a try too!
