Building 2-D and 3-D Shapes with WEDGNETiX

Looking to add an extra challenge to building sessions with your kids? These cool magnetic building blocks can rotate 360 degrees to enable you to easily engineer 2-D and 3-D shapes!

We were kindly gifted the WEDGNETiX 32 piece set by PlaSmart Inc. used in this blog. All opinions and images are our own and completely genuine. This post contains affiliate links.

As a family we love open-ended toys which encourage engineering skills. This was our first time testing out WEDGNETiX and here's how we got on.

From the get go we were all very impressed with the quality of the blocks. They are sturdy, smooth and the magnets are of very high quality. You can rotate the blocks 360 degrees which results in so much creativity!

As a parent I loved the fact that regardless of age, all four members of the family could easily join in and create (baby sis was fully supervised!). As the pieces are large and sturdy, baby sis was happy to explore how the magnets made them connect. She was quick to build herself all sorts of creations!

The fact that 2-D and 3-D shapes can be built led to such diverse creations from Daddy and big bro!

Everyone enjoyed working together to build two pyramids!

For me a big plus of the WEDGNETiX is that they offered a little bit more of a challenge to my 5 year old son. He is a regular user of other open-ended building toys such as LEGOs and Picasso Tiles and these are great. I like how the WEDGNETiX weren't always easy for him (sounds mean I know!). At first he got a little frustrated, but he soon learnt to be patient and how to manipulate the angles to create what he wanted. We even started to talk about some key angle vocabulary which was a great learning opportunity for him.

At first glance you may question what your kids can build with 32 WEDGNETiX blocks but I was amazed at how many different creations we made in just one hour. The set comes with a booklet full of suggestions and, of course, kids always come up with the best ideas anyway! From handcuffs, to rollercoaster tracks, to diamonds, the creativity was overflowing! I'm really excited to have these in our toy room and I can't wait to see what else my kids come up with using the WEDGNETiX! Thanks PlaSmart Inc. for a great STEM product!
