Honeysticks crayons are one of our new favorite art supplies, here's why!
We were kindly gifted this Honeysticks Original Crayons set, Toddler's First Coloring Book: A North American Adventure, and Honeysticks Bath Crayons set by Honeysticks for purpose of review. All opinions and images are our own and completely genuine. This post contains affiliate links.
My kids have not always been into coloring. In fact my 5 yr old was pretty resistant as a toddler! More recently he's really developed a passion for drawing and this interest has rubbed off on 20 month old baby sis. They can often be found with a large piece of paper collaborating over a new masterpiece.
A key part of their creative enjoyment is getting to use a variety of mark making tools. Whenever I present them with a new type of marker, crayon or paint, it's like it ignites their imagination all over again! So when Honeysticks asked if they could send us some of their all-natural and non-toxic crayons made form 100% pure beeswax I was pretty excited!
The first thing my kids noticed and enjoyed was the smell of the crayons! My son shouted with delight 'normally crayons are stinky but these ones smell so good!'. It's true, the crayons actually smell of beeswax!
Another notable difference is the size of these jumbo crayons. Baby sis has a bit of a habit of snapping crayons. It's not really her fault, she just doesn't have the control yet to apply the correct amount of pressure all the time. Honeysticks crayons are very robust which I feel helps to justify the price tag. These are made to last!
Their chunky size also means that the marks left are big and bold. This is especially important for baby sis. She's still at the scribbling stage, but her face lights up when she sees the colorful markings left on her paper. It also means we can link to color vocabulary more clearly.
The Toddler's First Coloring Book is adorable. As you can see, baby sis was so into coloring the horse's legs! The images are simplistic which I love. Too often coloring books are overwhelming and don't leave enough to the imagination of the child.
There are 40 big, thick pages, made from 100% recycled paper. The quality binding was also a plus- easy to spread flat for comfy coloring!
We also received a set of the Honeysticks Bath Crayons. These also did not disappoint. We've tried several brands of bath crayons with mixed success. What I liked about the Honeysticks ones was the quality. Yes you pay more, but it is so worth it. They did not go mushy or snap under pressure. The bath crayons are much bigger which again helped out baby sis. Big bro also liked how easy they were to use, as well as the range of colors available in the pack. We enjoyed a fun color matching bath activity using them!
A nice little bonus is that the storage tin has shower style holes in the bottom which serves two purposes. Firstly it means that when you clear the crayons away after bath, they are not sat going mushy in bath water over night. Perhaps more excitingly though, it also doubles up as a super fun bath toy for the kids! Some parents may also be concerned about the mess left on the bath tub and tiles, but there is literally none! The markings wipe straight off with little effort.
Have I convinced you? I hope so, because Honeysticks crayons really have enhanced our drawing and coloring sessions. The biggest advantage for me is that I can have peace of mind that my kids are safe using this product. This means I can give my kids creative independence which is crucial for their development and confidence!
