Color Soaked Pastel Hearts

Watercolors and pastels make for the most beautiful combination when it comes to creating a Valentine's inspired masterpiece.

What you need:
- white A4 watercolor paper (white card will also work)
painter's tape
- pastels
- a set of watercolor paints
- paintbrush
- water

How it works:
Start off by using your painter's tape to create a grid on the watercolor paper. You can vary the size of the squares to best suit the age of your artist. Then ask your little creator to fill each square with heart drawings using the pastels.

Encourage them to use lots of different colors. My son decided that he wanted a big heart and little heart inside each square.

Once all of the squares are full, it's time to get painting! Use the watercolors to paint each square in a different color. Your child will notice that the pastel hearts are still clearly visible even when they paint over them.

Once the paint has dried, peel off the tape and reveal a beautiful love-filled masterpiece!

I love how bold this piece of artwork is!

You could cut out each square to make mini Valentine's cards, or as we did, you can add a message on the back and make it into a big card for someone special.
