Chocolate Box Play Dough Kit

Let little imaginations run wild with a chocolate box inspired play dough kit... complete with the most delicious smelling homemade play dough!

My toddler loves all things food related when it comes to her role play. She can often be found cooking up all sorts of dishes in her pretend kitchen, and of course I've sampled them all... several times! I thought it would be really cute for us to make a chocolate themed play dough kit as a gift to her preschool class for Valentine's Day. My little one was so excited to share it with her friends.

What you need:

- Hershey's Cocoa Play Dough (2 cups of all purpose flour, 1/2 cup salt, 2 tablespoons cream of tartar, 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons glycerin, 1.5 tablespoons Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder dissolved in 1 1/2 cups of boiling water. Mix dry ingredients and then add the hot cocoa mixture. Stir in bowl and then turn onto floured surface and knead thoroughly. Allow to cool and store in sealed bag or container).

- Pink Lemonade Play Dough (same recipe as above minus the cocoa powder, add a sachet of Pink Lemonade Kool Aid to the dry ingredients instead. During kneading stage sprinkle in some gold glitter for extra shimmer).

- mini cupcake liners (Walmart)

- heart cutters (Walmart)

- tiny pom poms (Michaels)

- paper straws cut to various sizes (Target and Walmart)

- colored craft sticks and pipe cleaners (Walmart)

- heart gems and heart confetti (Dollar Tree)

- chocolate boxes (Walmart)

- all stored in an IKEA GLIS container

By including a fun selection of realistic materials such as the scented play dough and boxes, this kit is sure to inspire lots of open-ended role play. I can't wait to hear what the class made with the materials- cupcakes, cookies, or truffles, so many fun possibilities. My little one is still convinced that there are some real chocolates hiding in those boxes!
