Giro del Gelato 2020: Ride & Refresh with Woom

We are joining in with a really fun summer event which is all about bike riding and ice cream eating... what more could you want?!

We were kindly gifted our Woom bikes. All opinions and images are our own and completely genuine.

Nothing speaks summer to my kids more than bike rides and ice cream! That’s why we couldn’t wait to jump on board with Woom’s fun celebration of National Ice Cream Day which is on Sunday, July 19th. Woom has decided to enjoy a fun play on words by celebrating the Giro del Gelato, which means the Tour of Ice Cream in Italian. The Giro d’Italia is a well-known cycling race held in Italy each summer, and well, we all know what Gelato is (and how delicious it tastes!).

Woom is giving away some pretty awesome free swag to celebrate and want to see as many families as possible enjoying the event by going on a bike ride with their kids, stopping at a local ice cream store and snapping a few pics to savor the memories (don’t forget to add #girodelgelato2020 and tag @woombikesusa when posting on your social platforms).

Registration is all that is required, head to the page here ASAP to get involved. The swag bags include a Giro del Gelato branded cycling cap, bicycle nameplate, stickers and campaign brochure which folds out into a poster.

To make things even sweeter, anyone who adds the # will be entered into a giveaway for a chance to win one of 8 Woom bikes and 20 WORN TO BE WILD $50 apparel gift cards. Exciting stuff!

If you don't have an easily accessible local ice cream store...
We actually live too far away from a local ice cream store to cycle, so we got creative and brought the ice cream store to our driveway! Having recently received two new Woom bikes we had the perfect boxes to make a cute little recyclable ice cream stand.

My 3 yr old and 6 yr old got straight to work making signs and menus for their stand. Big bro carefully added each type of popsicle and ice cream to the menu… along with some pretty extortionate pricing! Baby sis was all about making a brochure describing her favorite ice cream combos. It was awesome to see them both so enthusiastically creating together!

To make the stand we used some old wooden poles as the uprights and attached the boxes using a drill and screws. We cut off the extra cardboard flaps and used the rest as a countertop. The final part was to make the stand a little more secure by adding a brace which went through the base box and stuck out the back of the stand. Now came the really fun part- stocking the ice cream store! They worked together to transfer a good supply of popsicles and ice cream from the freezer to their store. They also grabbed some scoops, cones and napkins to make sure they looked profesh!

It was so fun to see them safely serving up some neighbors (big bro totally tried to make them actually pay!!), and of course enjoying their own generous serving of their favorite flavors and popsicles. They had the genius idea to park up all their bikes to use them as drive thru vehicles and seating for their ‘customers’. I just loved listening to their serious conversations as if they were established store owners!

After everyone was full and refreshed, they went for another ride up and down the street. The perfect way to spend a summery day! Be sure to join in with this fun celebration combining bikes and ice cream. My kids had a blast riding with a purpose and getting creative with their ice cream store. And of course they loved getting to taste test all the product too! Happy Giro del Gelato friends!
