This is one of my son's favourite books to read. Adding a few props to the story enabled my son to role play and re-tell the story in his own creative way.
The Tiger Who Came to Tea. |
What you need:
- 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' book by Judith Kerr
- a play tea set (ours is 'Green Toys' brand)
- selection of play food that relates to the book (e.g. sandwiches, milk, ice cream, and a big can for the Tiger Food)
- pretend Tiger
How it works:
Very simple this one, I just filled my IKEA tub with play food relating to the story and presented it alongside the tea set, Tiger and book. Straight away my son started re-telling the story without even opening the book. He loved pouring pretend tea for the Tiger to drink, as well as getting the Tiger to eat all of the food.
Preparing the tea. |
The Tiger drinking all the tea in the tea pot just like in the book. |
His favourite part, however, was pretending that the Tiger had knocked on our door and joined us for tea. He loved taking the Tiger into our kitchen and presenting him with edible offerings. He kept taking the Tiger back to the table to see if he wanted any Tiger Food which was very cute.
Offering the Tiger some Tiger Food. |
I always enjoy linking books and creative play but this one was particularly nice as it was so easy to set up yet it really captured my son's imagination.
