Get creative with Crayon Clay!

My kids love coloring at the moment so I am always looking for new materials which will help ignite their creativity. Crayon Clay most certainly did just that!

We received the larger packet which contains five colors of clay, each 50g, so 250g in total. This was an ample amount and allowed for us all to have a good experiment with the product.

I like how the colors are individually wrapped. We decided to open them all up and have a big crayon creating session, but with the individual wrappers you could always just use one at a time. The clay is a bright bold color and I was surprised at how clean it was to use. Both kids were happy handling it!

My 21 month old was simply happy exploring the texture of the clay, busily cutting and squishing it into small shapes.

5 year old big bro on the other hand was totally engrossed in making specific shapes for his crayons. The clay was easy for him to mold without assistance. As you handle the clay, it does soften but we did not find that it melted or got messy at all.

We made color twists, mini crayons, a snail, a candy cane, an emoji, and my son's favorite, a snowman. You can blend the clay colors together to make new colors which is pretty cool. There is even a little color mixing chart on the box which my son enjoyed experimenting with.

It definitely helps to make the clay structures large and stable. Trying to add delicate parts will make the crayon more likely to fall apart. Once we were done molding the clay, we set the creations aside on the tray and left them to air dry for 24 hours. As you can see, both kids were pretty happy with their crayon creations!

After patiently waiting the 24 hours (ok maybe we gave up at 22 hours!), my kids excitedly got out some paper and tested out their very own crayon creations!

I loved seeing their excitement! They had so much fun experimenting with the different shapes and colors.

I liked how they had to explore their crayons, deciding how to best make marks with the more complex shapes. I was impressed with how well the crayons worked, they really did leave surprisingly bold markings!

Any of the crayons with more delicate parts, such as the arms on the snowman, were liable to snapping off so it is worth making sure you build big and strong clay structures. My son thought it was good fun using the snowman's little broken arm to color with anyway though!

So would we recommend Crayon Clay? Absolutely! I think anything which gets my kids thinking creatively and being hands on with their learning is a huge win. And with the price so reasonable, this is definitely a great birthday or holidays gift for friends and family, as well as your own kids.
