Our Kinderboard has been well-loved by both my kids since the day they got it. Sure they love wobbling and climbing on it, but they use it in so many other creative ways too!
We were kindly gifted the Rainbow Kinderboard by Kinderfeets used in this blog. All opinions and images are our own and completely genuine. This post contains affiliate links.
My kids love physical play so I'm always on the lookout for new products which encourage them to enjoy movement activities when we are inside. That's why I was really excited to receive our new Rainbow Kinderboard. But what I didn't expect is that my kids would be so incredibly creative with the ways they engage and play with it. It really has been a great addition to our play room.
1. Rock 'n Roll
So this is probably the most obvious way to use the Kinderboard. Both my 2 year old and 5 year old have loved challenging their physical abilities to rock from side to side on the board in different positions.
At first baby sis was a bit nervous but she carefully watched big bro and learnt how to keep her balance.
I love watching big bro experiment with different ways to make the board rock from side to side. It is a fantastic way for them both to be improving their balance and core strength. We came up with a fun extra challenge of adding a ball which you have to try and keep on the board as you rock from side to side - harder than it looks!
2. Bridge Play
One of the first things baby sis did when she got the Kinderboard was to drive a car over it. Big bro quickly called it a rainbow bridge and they were off, excitedly zooming their cars over it.
Since then we frequently set up little cities using our Way to Play Roads, Guidecraft Junior Rainbow Blocks, and Learning Resources Family Counters.
The kids love zooming their cars to the top of the bridge and then letting them go down the other side. This is a great example of how open ended the Kinderboard is.
3. Can it Roll?
Both kids enjoy gathering loose parts from the play room and testing out if they will roll down the board.
Carefully trying to balance the loose parts so that they roll down and up the other side is a great workout for fine motor skills, and also a lesson in patience!
This has also led to some great learning about shapes and motion. Our Grapat Nins, Rings and Coins set works particularly well for this activity.
4. Color Sorting
Another fun way to use loose parts and the Kinderboard is for color sorting. This is where the rainbow design really comes into play!
I simply extended the colors on the board using some washi tape and put out the same Grapat set. This activity was particularly inviting for baby sis who carefully lined up the loose parts on the correct color line.
The actual color sorting was a little simple for 5 year old big bro so I gave him the added challenge of balancing the parts on the correct color segment of the board.
5. Small World Play
One of my favorite things about the Rainbow Kinderboard is that my kids are so inspired by it and want to incorporate it into their daily play. Recently they decided to set up their own 'river and bridge' small world using their toy animals.
This might not look like anything special but they squealed with excitement as they added the blue cardboard river, shells and sea creatures. Most importantly it was theirs and if they wanted a T-Rex on the bridge, that's what they did!
So much creative play can stem from a basic set up like this, especially when there are dinosaurs and sharks involved!
I hope this blog has shown you just how versatile the Rainbow Kinderboard is. It's definitely an investment as far as play room products go, but it has the huge advantage of being open-ended, having the ability to grow with your child, and of course who can resist that gorgeous rainbow design!
I really enjoyed your blog T7hanks for sharing such an informative post remarkreviewworld
