Combining music and art makes for an awesome afternoon of colorful rock 'n rollin'!

What you need:
jumbo craft sticks
Neon Kwik Stix
Classic Colors Kwik Stix
- cardboard boxes (we used shoe boxes, pots and pans would work too)

I loved the simplicity of this activity. I must give full credit to New Trick Kids who publish an awesome magazine full of creative play ideas for siblings to enjoy together. We got the idea from the All About Sound magazine and added a few twists to suit everyone's preferences and passions.

The kids each had two jumbo craft sticks to decorate however they wished. Big bro worked hard to make 'racing stripes' on his as he wanted them to help him drum faster!

Meanwhile baby sis who is 18 months was happy for a less structured approach with splashes of color. I enjoyed joining in with her to make a rainbow rhythm stick too.

The Kwik Stix were perfect for this project. They ran smoothly over the wooden craft sticks, leaving bright and bold colors. The best thing is that the tempera paint dries in 90 seconds- no smudges and the kids could play with their rhythm sticks pretty much straight away!

Once the rhythm sticks were decorated, it was time to find some drums to beat out some rhythms on! We dug out the shoe boxes from our recent back to school purchases and set up stools and drums which both kids thought was so cool!

Things got pretty wild with so much rockin' and rollin'!

What I loved about this activity was how much fun was had from such basic recyclable materials. I also loved that big bro and baby sis were having so much fun side-by-side!

Thanks again New Trick Kids for the inspiration!
