Three different ways to spice up watercolor painting with your toddler to make some cute bookmarks.
What you need:
- white A4 card (watercolor paper would be best if you have it)
- a set of watercolor paints

How it works:
I always seem to overlook watercolors. Not today! I wanted to experiment with some fun watercolor techniques with my 18 month old daughter. She is just entering the stage of being obsessed with stories, so I thought it might be cute to make some DIY bookmarks.
To make the bookmark shape from your card or watercolor paper, simply divide it into three sections using painter's tape.
Simply cover the bookmark in vibrant watercolor paint, making sure there is a decent amount of liquid on the page. Then sprinkle rice over the bookmark. Leave it to dry, brush off the rice, and you are left with a subtle additional texture to the painting.
Cover the bookmark with a rainbow of watercolors. Use a Q-tip to dab lightly watered paint onto the bookmark, ensuring to use as many colors as possible to give a fun rainbow raindrop effect.
For this one you need some white acrylic paint and a sponge paintbrush. Simply dab the white paint over the doily, peel it off, and see the beautiful print that is left. Move the doily around to create lots of fun and unique prints.
When the paint has dried, simply peel off the painter's tape to reveal a crisp white border. All three methods were very easy to set up and my 18 month old could happily join in. The great thing with watercolors is that you can always add more water to wash the color and start again!
