Modarri Interchangeable Car Building Sets

We've just discovered Modarri cars and my 5 yr old can't get enough of them! Here's why...

We were kindly gifted three Modarri car sets for purpose of review. All opinions and images are our own and completely genuine. This post contains affiliate links.

We always find the best new toys in our local toy store. On a recent trip, my 5 yr old had some spending money from relatives and he knew exactly what he wanted- the Modarri Delux X1 Dirt Car Set, costing $24.99. It was a great choice and he couldn't wait to get it home and start building. He loved it so much that he took it to school as his first ever show and tell! So when the kind folks at Thoughtfull Toys offered to send us some more Modarri cars for a test drive, I knew my little guy would be over the moon!

In our package we received the Super Delux Rally Pack Set, the Delux S2 Muscle Set and the Delux T1 Track Car Set.

These cars are so much more than just a toy. On the box it says they are the ultimate toy car, and I think we have to agree with that statement. Here's six reasons why:

1. As a parent I love how this toy encourages STEM learning. My son will happily spend an hour changing the car parts to engineer his perfect ride. He loves to carefully plan his builds, talking me through each and every part he uses and why he chose it. Although the cars come in sets, all of the parts are interchangeable, so as his collection grows, he has more and more car combinations to build.

2. It's not just about building the cars, it's also about getting to drive the creations. The cars are designed to be finger-driven, with real steering and suspension mechanics. The fact that the cars have the genuine mechanics really adds to the fun for my son.

3. On the box it says the cars are for 6+ and you do obviously need to carefully consider your child's ability level before purchasing. But having said that, I love that this toy challenges my 5 yr old to work with a new and safe tool. We spend so much time telling our kids not to touch stuff, that it is so refreshing to let him be hands on with his own tool. It's a great way to teach about tool functions and mechanics, but in a safe way. The tool used is a kid-friendly, blunt-ended mini screwdriver. To change the body of the car you just stack the components on the base, add the top layer and then screw in the two top layer screws.

4. Modarri cars have such a great way of helping kids to develop their fine motor skills without them even realizing! The precise screwing and unscrewing action requires fine motor control. It may sound crazy but actions like this will be helping your child to strengthen their writing skills!

5. Safety is always a consideration when purchasing a new toy. The design of the Modarri cars is such that the screws are maintained in the components. This means that at no point are the screws loose, they are always attached to part of the car. Awesome for safety and for avoiding losing them!

6. When my son chose to buy his first Modarri car I did have to double check with him that he knew he was just getting one car for his $25. Oh how wrong I was! Yes the car costs some bucks, but the nature of the set is so open-ended that the play does not dwindle quickly. With 11 interchangeable parts in the set, and the parts being of such high quality, it is money well spent for long-lasting play and learning.

So if like me, you have a toy car fan at home, I highly recommend investing in a Modarri car. It will add a whole new dimension of STEM learning to your child's play!
