Making potions is one of our favorite activities. Adding a Valentine's twist made for some pretty cool sparkling and glowing concoctions!

Anything involving water and loose parts always gets my little lady engaged. 23 month old baby sis LOVED making her own sensory-filled potions!
Materials needed:
- Glo Pals, we used red and purple
- selection of Valentine's themed loose parts such as heart gems, sequins and stirrers
- jars, mixer, cups and spoons
- water
- we used our IKEA FLISAT table which is ideal for sensory play like this
How it works:
To set up I simply put all of the loose parts and potion ingredients in one of the bins, and filled the other bin with water. This was an open-ended invitation to make love potions so there was no guidance needed!
Baby sis started off with lots of water transferring, which is great for sensory exploration and fine motor skill development. She loved exploring all of the fun Valentine's themed loose parts! She started added items to a jar for her first potion, carefully stirring it along the way.
Then came the real magic- she started to add the Glo Pals to her potions!
Her little voice excitedly squealed with delight as she named each color!
She continued to add more items to her potion, enjoying the experience of the different shapes and textures.
With a set up like this I feel it is important to offer a variety of scooping and transferring tools for them to explore. Baby sis was most engaged with the challenge of working out how each jar, spoon, and container could scoop and transfer water. She ended up even using the jar lids!
This activity could work with any theme, just find some loose parts and containers, add water, and if you want the extra glo-factor, add Glo Pals!
