Magic Heart Milk

This is such a classic science experiment for kids to enjoy. We added a fun Valentine's twist and my kids loved it!

What you need:
- heart shaped dish (we used one from Target)
- milk
- dish soap
- food coloring
- Q-tips

How it works:
We had some out-of-date milk so I decided it was the perfect time to finally give the classic magic milk experiment a try. I poured enough milk into the heart dish so that the bottom was covered. Then 5 year old big bro added drops of pink, red and purple food coloring into the milk.

Then my son dipped a Q-tip into the dish soap and gently touched it to a blob of food coloring in the milk.

The food coloring immediately rushed away from the dish soap, leaving beautiful and colorful swirls in the milk.

We repeated this several times as each time a completely different pattern was made in the milk.

My son was desperate to take the experiment to a bigger scale so we grabbed an oven tin and filled it with the remainder of the milk. He added loads of food coloring drops and it made for a pretty awesome experience!

I gave both big bro and 2 year old baby sis a skewer and they enjoyed adding swirls and mixing the colors.

So next time you have some out-of-date milk... you know what to do with it!
