This fun festive twist on maze building is always a hit in our house. From engineering, to fine motor skills, to sensory exploration, it really does hit so many areas of learning.

My 6 year old loves STEM challenges, especially when they involve LEGO! I came up with this fun idea to make mini Jingle All the Way Mazes. I made several of the play trays as I also took this activity into some Kindergarten classes. It worked just as well for a group setting.
What you need:
- selection of LEGO bricks or similar
- small bells (ours are from Dollar Tree)
- pizza trays (also from Dollar Tree)
- Creative QT Peel 'n Stick Baseplates (available in 9 colors and in packs of 1, 2 or 4)
- sharp utility or craft knife
- chopping board
- the StoryBricks Letter Board is also from Creative QT and was a fun way to set the instructions
How it works:
I decided to make these pizza maze trays to keep the building and rolling contained. It meant that each child could enjoy their own creation zone, as well as it being easier to tip the bell around the maze.
To make the maze trays I cut the baseplates down to a smaller size using a utility knife and chopping board. Cutting along a line of bricks makes it much easier!
I simply applied some pressure to bend the baseplate along the cut line until it snapped. Then it was just a case of cutting through the adhesive, peeling the backing off and sticking the smaller baseplate onto the pizza tray.
Big bro could not wait to get building when he saw the set up. It was great to see him carefully engineering his maze.
Once he was done with his maze constructing, it was time to add a bell!
He was excited to try and get the bell around his own maze, giggling to himself as he avoided the dead ends he had built to trick other people.
He was pretty happy with himself when he completed the maze!
It wasn't long before baby sis heard all the fun and wanted to join in! Big bro was a great helper and showed her how to use the maze. This was a great gross motor skill workout for 2 year old baby sis.
He was so proud of baby sis for completing his maze!
In the future we can look forward to experimenting more with different sizes of bells and complexities of mazes.
